Makuvire, Jackson Receive Top Southland Indoor Honors

HAMMOND, La. – Bradley Makuvire was voted the Southland Conference Indoor Men's Outstanding Running Events Performer while Kristian Jackson earned Southland Women's Outstanding Field Events Performer for the Southeastern Louisiana University track and field team, the league office announced Monday.

Makuvire, a sophomore, won the conference indoor titles in both the 3k and 5k races back on Feb. 28 and March 1 to earn a pair of first team All-Southland Indoor honors. The Zvishavane, Zimbabwe native, with Monday's announcement, added to his resume that he built during the cross country season. Makuvire was named Southland Male Cross Country Athlete of the Year after winning the Southland Championship 10K race back in October.

Jackson, out of Zachary, Louisiana, won the Southland Indoor shot put title and finished runner up in the weight throw. The Lady Lions' senior also set a new personal best in the weight throw of 59-9.75 (18.23m) on her way to securing a first and second team slot on Monday's team.

The SLU men also achieved six additional spots on the team. Tommy Nedow (shot put) and Slavko Stevic (high jump) both won their second career Southland Indoor titles in their respective events to receive first team honors. Nedow also earned the shot put championship in 2021 while Stevic claimed the high jump title in 2020.

The Lions DMR team of Makuvire, Agerian Jackson, Noah Kiprotich and Julius Kemper set a school record at the indoor championships with a time of 10:00.34 as the group finished runner up in the event for second team recognition.

Newcomer Wjuantereuas Rodrique made his way on to the second team after finishing runner up in the men's triple jump. Southeastern added a pair of third place finishes by Nedow (weight throw) and Kiprotich (800m) for two third team selections.

On the women's side, Indya Jackson earned a spot on the second team finishing runner up in the 400m while Chelsea Harrington placed third in the long jump for a third team selection.

The Lions and Lady Lions finished collectively with 10 student-athletes on Monday's team with five conference champions.
