HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University men's and women's basketball teams will compete in the Southland Conference Tournament, while the baseball, softball, track, tennis, beach volleyball and golf teams will all be in action during this week in Southeastern Athletics.
 
The Southeastern men's basketball team (18-13) will be the No. 2 seed in the men's tournament set for Wednesday through Saturday at the Merrell Center in Katy, Texas. The Lions will receive a bye into the semifinals and will face either New Orleans, McNeese or Northwestern State Friday at 7:30 p.m. Saturday's finals are set for 8:30 p.m.
 
The women's tournament runs Thursday through Sunday in the same facility. The Lady Lions (14-10) will be the No. 3 seed and receive a bye into the quarterfinals where it will face either UNO or Northwestern State on Friday at 1:30 p.m. Should Southeastern advance, it will take on No. 2 seed Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Saturday at 3:30 p.m. The finals are Sunday at 1 p.m. The winners of the men's and women's basketball tournaments will receive the league's automatic berths into the NCAA Tournament.
 
The SLU baseball team (5-7) opens the week with its fifth straight game against a ranked opponent, facing No. 25 Louisiana Tech in Ruston Wednesday at 6 p.m. The Lions will then return home to host Tennessee Tech for a three-game series at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field. The series will open with a 6 p.m. Friday contest, continue Saturday at 2 p.m. and conclude on 1 p.m. Sunday.
 
The Southeastern softball team (13-6) hits the road for the Memphis Tournament this week. SLU takes on Central Arkansas Thursday at 4 p.m. to open tournament play. The Lady Lions will continue Friday with an 11:30 a.m. contest versus South Dakota before facing host Memphis at 4:30 p.m. Southeastern closes the tournament Saturday against UCA at 10:30 a.m. and Oklahoma State at 3 p.m.
 
The Southeastern track and field teams will open the outdoor season this week.  The Lions and Lady Lions will travel to Mobile, Alabama to compete in the South Alabama Invitational Friday and Saturday.
 
The Lion tennis team (1-10) opens Southland Conference play this week. Southeastern will face Northwestern State at 11 a.m. at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
 
The SLU beach volleyball team (2-5) will host Spring Hill College Tuesday for a 2 p.m. doubleheader at the Southeastern Beach Volleyball Complex. The first 50 fans will receive free sunglasses and enter for a chance to win a cooler as part of the Beach Bash promotion in conjunction with Tuesday's matches.
 
The SLU golf team will compete in its second tournament of the spring this week. On Monday and Tuesday, Southeastern will be in Houston to participate in the Colin Montgomerie Invitational.
 
On the Air
The non-championship rounds of the Southland Basketball Tournaments and the home baseball games will be televised on ESPN+. The Southland men's tournament final will air on ESPN2, while Sunday's women's championship game will be televised on CBS Sports Network.

The 2022 season of Inside Southeastern Baseball with Matt Riser continues Monday at 12 p.m. from the patio of Pour House Pizza and Beer Garden. Riser will join co-host Allen Waddell at lunchtime every Monday during the season for the 60-minute show, talking the latest in Southeastern baseball. Each week, select Lion players will also join the duo. Pour House is located at 505 W. Thomas St. in Hammond. The show will initially be heard online at www.LionSports.net/ListenLive.
 
The latest episode of Inside Southeastern Basketball with David Kiefer is set for Monday at 7 p.m. The show will feature Kiefer and host Allen Waddell discussing Lion hoops every Monday through March 14 at Rainbow Daiquiris (14384 West Thomas Street). The show will air on Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM and The Boss 103.7 FM/1400 AM, as well as online at www.kajun107.net.
