MONROE, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University beach volleyball program defeated Nicholls, 5-0, Saturday, earning a split for the day at the ULM Bayou Bash.
 
SLU (2-5) picked up its second win in the last three duals, narrowly missing out on three consecutive wins after dropping a 3-2 decision to HBU in the opening contest of the day.
 
Against HBU (4-2), the Beach Lions earned points in the second and fifth flights. The No. 2 duo of Jolie Hidalgo and Meagan Scuderi won in straight sets, 21-18, 21-14. In the fifth flight, Mabry Ward and Eryn Wilks forced extras in their second set before claiming victory in the third, 14-21, 23-21, 15-10.
 
In the second dual of the day, SLU shut out Nicholls (0-6). The Beach Lions picked up straight-set wins in the first, second, fourth and fifth flights.
 
The No. 1 pairing of Hannah Barosh and Hannah Brewer earned their first win of the season, 21-11, 21-14. Hidalgo and Scuderi were dominant, 21-3, 21-4, in earning their second win of the day and improving to 6-1 together this season.
 
Avery Carroll and Michelle Mirarchi were pushed to three sets but ultimately came away with a 19-21, 21-14, 15-8 win in the third flight.
 
Moving up to the fourth flight, Ward and Wilks picked up their second win of the day, 21-18, 21-11. The duo improved to 3-0 together this season. The No. 5 pairing of Bailey Lyons and Jackie McGee earned their first win of the season, 21-13, 21-14.

Southeastern returns home for the Beach Bash, hosting a doubleheader Tuesday against Spring Hill at the Southeastern Beach Volleyball Complex in North Oak Park.
