Kuehn Wins Individual Title, Lions Earn Second Team Title of the Season

SLU earns second team championship of the season, Wins Ellendale Intercollegiate

Final Results

HOUMA, La. –
Logan Kuehn won the Ellendale Intercollegiate while the Southeastern Louisiana University men's golf team won the team championship, their second of the season, Tuesday during the final round of the tournament at Ellendale Country Club in Houma, Louisiana.

Kuehn, out of Lake Charles, Louisiana, shot -6 for the tournament, including a final round 70 to defeat UIW's Ken Marten-Soo by one stroke. Kuehn finished under par in all three rounds, shooting 69 and 71 in Monday's first and second rounds, respectively.

"He played great the first day, of course," said SLU golf head coach Jake Narro. "But today, I don't think his score indicated how well he played due to some tougher course conditions. It was a well deserved win for him and the team and a great way to go into the conference championship for everybody."

The win was Kuehn's first career tournament victory as he entered the week with a runner-up finish and third place result for his career. The St. Louis Catholic grad placed second back on March 1 at the Gulf Coast Intercollegiate and finished third at the Colin Montgomerie Invitational on March 9, 2021.

The Lions entered the day at 11 under par and got as a high as -13. However, SLU had to fight off a huge rally from North Alabama as the winds picked up to nearly 25 mph gusts early in the final round.

UNA had a one shot lead over the SLU with one hole to go before Southeastern's Charlie Forster and Michael Landry birdied their final holes to help the Lions clinch the win.

Landry finished the tournament tied for third as he shot -2 for the three rounds. The newcomer shot 71 in both rounds Monday and even par Tuesday, including the huge birdie on the 54th hole of the tournament in which he made a 15-foot putt.

"He didn't hit his best drive on the hole," said Narro. "So, he had to hit his second shot around a tree and got it right up there by the pin and clutched up with a big putt."

Forster, after starting the tournament with a 67 (-5), had to battle through some trouble in the second and third round. Forster placed tied for 12th in the final standings at +2 for the tournament, but played well at the team's most crucial moment.

Forster, a freshman, had shot +6 through the first 17 holes of Tuesday's final round but came up with a clutch birdie on the tournament's final hole (par-4, 371-yard-1st hole). He chipped his second shot from 80 yards out 10 feet from the pen and then drilled the birdie putt.

"Charlie really came through when we needed him," said Narro. "He didn't have his best round up until that point but he was just as much a part of the win as anybody."

Grayson Glorioso also had a clutch putt on his final hole (par-3 -168 yard-4th hole). The freshman nailed a 35-footer to help the Lions secure the win.

"That was an amazing putt," said Narro. "It broke about six feet to the right and ended up being right on target. It was a great moment for him and the entire team because of the difficulty of the shot and especially the timing of it."

Sophomore Cameron Mobley also played well in the tournament's final moments. Despite shooting 77 Tuesday, the Brandon, Mississippi native parred his last two holes to help the Lions hold strong at -5.

Tuesday's victory clinched the second in less than a month for the Lions. SLU won the Colin Montgomerie Invitational Championship back on March 8 in Spring, Texas.

Southeastern will have nearly a month off before it competes in the Southland Conference Tournament Monday-Wednesday, April 25-27 in McKinney, Texas at Stonebridge Country Club's Dye Course.
