KENNER, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University beach volleyball team defeated New Orleans, 3-2, Friday at Coconut Beach Volleyball Complex to finish off its final day of action in the UNO Invitational. Earlier in the day, Southeastern fell, 5-0, to North Florida.
 
In the day's early dual, the Beach Lions dropped straight sets against North Florida (14-6) in all but the fifth flight. Despite having their winning streak snapped at 12, the duo of Mabry Ward and Eryn Wilks forced a third set before ultimately falling, 21-17, 18-21, 15-10.
 
SLU (8-10) rebounded later in the day with three-set victories against UNO (10-10) in the fourth and fifth flights.
 
Ward and Wilks returned to their winning ways in the fifth, 21-13 17-21 15-10. The No. 4 duo of Avery Carroll and Linsey Sackett finished off a slightly tighter match, 21-17 19-21 15-9.
 
The deciding point came in the second flight where Hannah Barosh and Michelle Mirarchi picked up a win in straight sets, 21-14, 21-10, clinching the team victory for the Beach Lions.
 
Southeastern had the opportunity to finish off the dual with a sweep as both Hidalgo and Scuderi in the first flight, and Hannah Brewer and Jackie McGee in the third, went to a deciding third set before ultimately coming up short.
 
UP NEXT
SLU returns to the sand, April 1-2, in Monroe at the ULM Beach Invitational. Southeastern is slated to face UNO at 3 p.m. and Central Arkansas at 5 p.m. during first-day action. The Beach Lions will wrap up the two-day event against Mary Hardin-Baylor at 11 a.m. and host ULM at 5 p.m.
