SLU Hosts Texas A&M-Kingsville in First Home Dual

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University beach volleyball team hosts Texas A&M-Kingsville at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the Southeastern Beach Volleyball Complex in North Oak Park. Admission is free.

"We're excited to bring beach volleyball to Southeastern and the Hammond community," head coach Jeremy White said.  "Everyone will finally get to see us compete against another team and what the college game is all about. It's also against a team we feel we can be competitive with and hope to see everyone come out."

It will be the first regular-season contest at the two-year-old facility and fans are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs for seating on the berm.

"Fans should look to see what beach volleyball really is – a laid back, cool atmosphere with music playing while we're competing," White said. "Our kids go hard and will be playing at a high level, competing for every point. It's a really fun blend of competitiveness and fun."

Southeastern (0-4) opened up the 2022 season this past weekend at the HBU Tournament in Houston, Texas, picking up points in three contests but ultimately dropping all four duals in team competition.

"I thought we were really competitive," White said. "We took a lot of good teams to extras or to three. There were opportunities to take a dual. With the effort, we just need to figure out how to close."

SLU will be facing the Javelinas (4-0) for the third time in the program's short history. Last season, the Beach Lions fell just short, 3-2, against Texas A&M-Kingsville in a dual played in Nacogdoches, Texas.

UP NEXT
Southeastern returns to the sand Saturday for a pair of duals at the ULM Bayou Bash in Monroe, Louisiana. The Beach Lions will face HBU at 9 a.m. and Nicholls at 1 p.m. It will be the second time this season SLU will have faced the Huskies and the afternoon contest against the Colonels will be the first meeting between the fledgling programs.
