HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University softball team will open its 2022 season, while the basketball, tennis and track and field teams will all be in action during this week in Southeastern Athletics.
 
The Southeastern softball team will host Lion Classic I at North Oak Park to open its season. The Lady Lions will face Southeast Missouri on Friday at 5 p.m. On Saturday, SLU takes on SEMO at 3 p.m. and Alabama A&M on Saturday at 5 p.m.
 
The SLU men's basketball team (12-12, 4-3 Southland) returns home for a pair of Southland Conference contests this week in the University Center. McNeese comes to town on Thursday for an 8 p.m. contest. On Saturday, Southeastern welcomes HBU for a 4 p.m. matchup.
 
Saturday will feature the "Lion Up or Leave" promotion. The first 100 fans will receive a Lion Up foam finger.
 
The league-leading Lady Lion basketball team (11-6, 7-0 SLC) enters the week alone atop the Southland standing and on its longest winning streak since the 1994-95 season. SLU hosts McNeese on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and HBU on Saturday at 1 p.m.
 
Kacey Bradford and Chrissy Brown are Thursday's Spotlight Players of the Game, while Caitlyn Williams holds the honor for Saturday. The first 150 fans will receive trading cards featuring that game's Spotlight Players of the Game, courtesy of PRIDE.
 
The Southeastern tennis team (0-2) closes out its season-opening four-match road swing this week. On Friday, SLU travels to Mobile, Alabama for a 1 p.m. match at South Alabama. The Lions will remain in Mobile until Saturday, when it battles with Alabama State at 1 p.m.
 
The SLU men's and women's track and field teams will be back in action this week. The Lions and Lady Lions will compete in the Iowa State Classic on Friday and Saturday in Ames, Iowa.

All of this week's basketball games and Friday's softball contest will be televised on ESPN+. Thursday's basketball doubleheader can also be heard live online at LionSports.net/ListenLive.
 
The latest episode of Inside Southeastern Basketball with David Kiefer is set for Monday at 7 p.m. The show will feature Kiefer and host Allen Waddell discussing Lion hoops every Monday through March 14 at Rainbow Daiquiris (14384 West Thomas Street). The show will air on Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM and The Boss 103.7 FM/1400 AM, as well as online at www.kajun107.net.
