BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southeastern Louisiana University track and field team embarks for the 2022 Southland Conference Indoor Championships this weekend beginning Sunday at 8:30 a.m. at the Birmingham Crossplex.
On the men's side, the Lions will look to continue a trend of success as they won the 2020 Southland Indoor Championships and finished runner up in 2021.
Slavko Stevic eyes a second career conference indoor high jump championship. The sophomore claimed the title in 2020 while finishing runner up in 2021. Out of Sremska Mitrovica, Serbia, Stevic enters the weekend ranked number one in the Southland high jump with a season high mark 6-10.25 (2.09m) set at the Iowa State Classic Feb. 11. He will be in action Sunday at 5 p.m.
Thomas Nedow will also seek a conference title as he enters the reigning Southland indoor shot put champion. The Brockville, Canada native is ranked second in the shot put in the conference this year throwing 54-8 (16.66m) at the McNeese Invitational Jan. 28. The sophomore will also compete in the weight throw as one of the favorites as he is ranked atop the Southland in the event (58-8.75, 17.90m). Nedow will compete in the weight throw Sunday at 4 p.m. and the shot put Monday at noon.

On the women's side,
Kristian Jackson could have a big weekend in the field. The Zachary, Louisiana native ranks second in the Southland in the shot put and third in the weight throw. Jackson will compete in the weight throw Sunday at 1 p.m. and the shot put Monday at 10 a.m.
Sprinter
Indya Jackson is set to compete in the 60m and 200m for the Lady Lions. Also from Zachary, Louisiana, Jackson is in the top 10 in the conference in both events entering the weekend. The junior is scheduled to be in action Sunday at 3:20 p.m. in the 60m prelims and then at 5 p.m. in the 200m prelims.

"I think that all the kids are ready to go," said SLU track and field head coach
