SLU Returns to Court to Host Lamar

Former Southland rivals meet for 11 a.m. match Saturday at Southeastern Tennis Complex

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's tennis team will return to action Saturday, hosting Lamar for an 11 a.m. nonconference match at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.

Saturday's match between the Lions (0-5) and the visiting Cardinals will be a meeting of former Southland Conference rivals. LU is in its first season representing the Western Athletic Conference (WAC).

Southeastern earned its first singles victories of the spring Tuesday versus Alcorn State. Putri Insani, Polina Paunova and Sonya Kanarskaya all entered the win column for the Lions. Insani and Flory Bierma have SLU's lone doubles victory this spring.

Lamar is led in singles by Alba Perez, who has a 4-2 mark in dual match play. The Cardinals' top doubles duo is Noella Lorca and Elena Tairyan, who have teamed for a 3-2 record on the No. 1 court.

Following Saturday's match, SLU will open a three-match road swing with a 2 p.m. match at Southern next Wednesday in Baton Rouge.
