DESTIN, Fla. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's tennis team continued its 2022 fall schedule by competing in the Bluewater Bay Classic this week.
Southeastern head coach
Jason Hayes was pleased with his team's progress as the tournament unfolded.
"We played well on Friday, but the results weren't there for us," Hayes commented. "We came out much more focused on Saturday and concentrated on doing the things we've been working on. We were able to sweep through doubles play and win five of six team matches."
Carla del Barrio led SLU in singles play with a 3-0 record for the tournament, while
Kate Oborina and
Gabrielle Dekkers were both 2-0 on the week.
In doubles play, Dekkers and Panatchakorn "Fresh" Suanarsa teamed for a pair of wins, as did the Lion duo of
Flory Bierma and
Putri Insani. The team of
Bogi Csordas and
Nadia Hitzman, as well as
Alba Perez and del Barrio each also earned doubles victories this week.
"Carla missed the Jackson State tournament with an injury and bounced back with a big weekend for us," Hayes said. "Gabrielle had a tough weekend at UCA, but was 4-1 in singles and doubles this week. Bogi and Kate were both undefeated for the weekend. We did a lot of good things that we can build on moving forward."
Select SLU student-athletes will compete in the Dillard Invitational next weekend before the Lions host the George E. Fourmaux Fed Cup Invitational Oct. 28-29 to close out the fall schedule.
