HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University men's and women's basketball teams open Southland Conference play to highlight this week in Southeastern Athletics.
 
Fresh off winning the inaugural Southland Tip-Off championship, the Lions (7-9) have two games on tap this week. SLU has added a nonconference matchup versus Tougaloo College on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the University Center. On Saturday, Southeastern opens league play with a 4 p.m. home contest versus Northwestern State.
 
The SLU women's basketball team (4-6) will open Saturday's action with a 1 p.m. league opener versus NSU. Saturday's game will feature the "We Back Pat" promotion, as the contest will be dedicated to the fight against Alzheimer's Disease in the memory of late Tennessee women's basketball coaching legend Pat Summitt.
 
Breonca Ducksworth will be Saturday's Spotlight Player of the Game. The first 150 fans will receive a trading card featuring the Taylorsville, Mississippi native courtesy of PRIDE.
 
Also on Saturday, a pair of former Southeastern football student-athletes will compete in all-star games in Orlando, Florida. Quarterback Cole Kelley will participate in the Hula Bowl at 11 a.m. The Spiral Tropical Bowl kicks off at 3 p.m. and features wide receiver Austin Mitchell.
 
On the Air
Saturday's basketball doubleheader will be televised on ESPN+. All of this week's basketball games can be heard on www.LionSports.net/listenlive.
 
The debut episode of Inside Southeastern Basketball with David Kiefer is set for Monday at 7 p.m. The show will feature Kiefer and host Allen Waddell discussing Lion hoops every Monday through March 14 at Rainbow Daiquiris (14384 West Thomas Street). The show will air on Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM and The Boss 103.7 FM/1400 AM, as well as online at www.kajun107.net.
 
Saturday's Hula Bowl will air on CBS Sports Network. A live stream of the Tropical Bowl at VarsitySportsNetwork.org.
