HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana cross country team had four males and one female student-athlete named to the 2020 Louisiana Sports Writers Association All-Louisiana Team, the LSWA announced Thursday.
Southeastern head coach
Corey Mistretta was named Southland Conference Men's Coach of the Year as he guided the Lions to their first Southland Conference Cross Country title in program history.
SLU's
Shea Foster was named Runner of the Year while SLU's
Bradley Makuvire was tabbed Southland Newcomer of the Year.
Foster, a senior, won the Southland Conference Championship 8K race in 22:41.2 which was an all-time conference record in the event. The Cypress, Texas native also qualified for the NCAA Division Cross Country National Championship 10k race.
Makuvire, a sophomore from Zimbabwe, helped SLU clinch the Southland title with a 10
th place finish in 24:03.2. The sophomore also was named second team All-Southland.
Also for the men,
Grant O'Callaghan and
Adam Cortez were all selected to the team. Both finished in the top 10 at the 2020 Southland Conference Cross Country Championship hosted by SLU.
O'Callaghan, a first team All-Southland selection, also made his way on to the LSWA for the second straight season. The Flowery Branch, Georgia native finished fifth in the conference championship running 23.46.7 which was the third best time in the state behind Foster and UNO's Kolyn Saltzman.
Cortez, a senior, also received LSWA recognition. The El Paso, Texas native finished eighth in the conference championship race in 23:52.9 to secure a spot on the team.
On the women's side, Daigle ran the women's Southland Championship 6k race in 21:01.7 to secure a fifth place finish and first team All-Southland honors.
