Men's Team Standings
HUMBLE, Texas – Franck DiSanza won the Southland Conference Outdoor Championship in the men's javelin for the Southeastern Louisiana track and field team during the second day of the 2021 Southland Outdoor Championships at Turner Stadium in Humble.
DiSanza, a freshman, won the event with a throw of 73.76m (242 feet). The Rolle, Switzerland native bested the rest of the field by nearly four meters as McNeese's Donovan Banks finished second (69.78m, 228-11).
Ashley Davis started the day off for SLU finishing runner up in the women's shot put. The Watson, Louisiana native threw 16.19m (153 feet, 1.5 inches) for her second straight runner up finish at the Southland Outdoor Championships in the shot put. Davis's performance put eight points on the board for the Lady Lions.
Also in the women's shot out,
Kristian Jackson finished fifth for SLU with a 14.90m throw (48-10.75) for four points.
In the men's shot put, SLU's
Stevon Crooks (16.93m, 55-6.5) and
Thomas Nedow (16.16m, 53-0.25) finished third and fourth respectively adding 11 points to the men's total.
In the 400m,
Indya Jackson advanced to the women's final Sunday at 10 a.m. The junior finished sixth in the prelims in a time of 55:27.
For the men,
Jonathon Sawyer (46.50) and
James Benson II (46.98) both punched their tickets to the 400m final Sunday at 10:10 a.m. Later in the day, the duo also qualified for the 200m final Sunday at 11:20 a.m. as Benson II ran 20.97 and Sawyer finished at 21.03 in the prelims.
Parker McBride advanced to the 800m final after running 1:54.33 Saturday in the prelims. Out of Dutchtown, Louisiana, McBride is slated for the Final Sunday at 11 a.m.
Through nine events Entering Sunday, the Lions are in fourth place with 39 points while Stephen F. Austin leads the way with 56.5 points. The Lady Lions are in fifth place with 27 points while McNeese in front with 74 points.
