SLU Places Five on All-Southland Conference Teams

Mass, Rizzo, Greely, Rodenberg, Zumo selected among league's best

HAMMOND, La. – Five Southeastern Louisiana softball student-athletes were named to the 2021 All-Southland Conference Softball Teams, which were released by the league office on Monday.

Representing SLU among the league's best were junior outfielder Aeriyl Mass, junior third baseman Lindsey Rizzo, freshman outfielder Audrey Greely, senior designated player Anna Rodenberg and junior pitcher Heather Zumo. Mass was named to the first team, Rizzo and Greely were second team selections, while Rodenberg and Zumo were place on the third team.

Mass, a native of Lake Charles, Louisiana, has arguably been SLU's top all-around player in 2021. In her first full season in Hammond after transferring from UL Lafayette, she ranks among the Southland Conference leaders with a .365 batting average (10th), 38 runs (3rd), 61 hits (2nd), nine doubles (8th), two triples (5th) and 28 stolen bases (3rd).

Rizzo, who hails from Watson, Louisiana, was named to the All-Southland team for the second time after earning honorable mention honors in 2019. She made the switch to third base after playing shortstop her first two seasons, hitting .355 with 32 runs, 54 hits and a team-high 29 stolen bases. The steady Rizzo heads into the postseason ranked in the Southland top 10 in hits (7th), runs (5th) and stolen bases (2nd).

Greely, a Geismar, Louisiana product, earned All-Southland honors after her first full collegiate season. She hit .373 with 30 runs, 44 hits, seven doubles, three home runs, 22 RBI and 15 stolen bases during the regular season. Greely's totals for batting average (8th), runs (10th) and on-base percentage (.460. 9th) rank among the Southland's best.

Rodenberg, a native of Thibodaux, Louisiana, has made the most of increased playing time in her final season. Primarily a pinch runner in her first three seasons in the green and gold, Rodenberg took over at designated player early in league play and leads the Southland with a .441 batting average in conference games. Her .500 on-base percentage versus league competition is the second-highest in the Southland, while her overall .405 batting average leads SLU.

Zumo, who hails from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, rounds out the Lady Lion All-Southland contingent after establishing herself as the team's ace in 2021. She is currently 15-6 with a 2.36 earned run average, four shutouts, 141 strikeouts and holding opponents to a .228 batting average. Twice named Southland Pitcher of the Week and with two no-hitters to her credit this spring, Zumo ranks among the league leaders in ERA (8th), opposing batting average (8th), innings pitched (145.1, 3rd), strikeouts (2nd) and wins (3rd).

Southeastern's five selections were tied for the third-most in the Southland Conference. Only Stephen F. Austin (seven) and McNeese (six) had more representatives.

Regular season champion SFA took home four individual awards, as Kassidy Wilbur (Player and Pitcher of the Year), Shaylon Govan (Hitter of the Year) and Nicole Dickson (Coach of the Year) earned accolades. Central Arkansas' Jenna Wildeman (Freshman of the Year) and Jenna Edwards of McNeese (Newcomer of the Year) were the other top individual award winners.

The All-Southland Conference teams were selected by the Southland Conference head coaches and sports information directors. Voters were not allowed to vote for their institution's nominees.
