Southeastern Hosts McNeese for Southland Series

Series opens with a 5 p.m. doubleheader on Friday, concludes on Saturday at 2 p.m.

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana softball team puts its five-game winning streak on the line this week, hosting Southland Conference rival McNeese for a three-game series at North Oak Park.

Expected inclement weather in the Hammond area has altered the series schedule between the Lady Lions (21-13, 10-2 Southland) and the visiting Cowgirls (18-19, 8-4 Southland). The series will now consist of a 5 p.m. doubleheader on Friday and concluded with a 2 p.m. contest on Saturday. Live stats for the series will be accessible at www.LionSports.net/sidearmstats/softball.

Southeastern extended its win streak on Monday, defeating Mississippi State, 6-4. The win over the Bulldogs marked the second straight season the Lady Lions have defeated an SEC opponent.

The Lady Lions are hitting .291 as a team, paced by reigning LSWA Hitter of the Week Audrey Greely's .415 batting average. The trio of Lindsey Rizzo (.387), Aeriyl Mass (.378) and Cameron Goodman (.306) round out the top hitters for average for Southeastern.

Mass also leads the team with three home runs, 45 hits, 29 runs scored and 23 RBI. Goodman bests the squad with three triples, while Greely enters the series with a team-high six doubles.

Southeastern is tied for the Division I lead with 105 stolen bases and is second nationally with 3.09 steals per game. Rizzo leads the team with 22 steals, followed by Mass (21), Goodman (20), Kelci Bodin (12) and Greely (11).

SLU enters the series with a 4.07 team earned run average. Heather Zumo (12-2, 2.14 ERA), MC Comeaux (8-5, 5.14 ERA) and Sophie Hannabas (1-3, 6.34 ERA) have been the primary starters for Southeastern. Ellie DuBois (0-2, 3.25 ERA, 5 saves) has handled closing duties for the Lady Lions and has already set a new single-season school saves record.

The Lady Lion pitching staff will be facing a McNeese lineup that is hitting .238 as a team. Kaylee Lopez leads the Cowgirls with a .329 batting average, while Cori McCrary (6 HR, 20 RBI) and Haylee Brinlee (5 HR, 24 RBI) are the team's top power threats.

In the circle, a quartet of arms have partnered for a 3.17 team ERA for McNeese. Whitney Tate (6-7, 3.08 ERA, 1 save), Jenna Edwards (5-1, 1.68 ERA, 4 saves), Saleen Flores (5-6, 4.75 ERA, 2 saves) and Ashley Vallejo (2-5, 3.42 ERA) have split time in the circle for the Cowgirls.
