DES MOINES, IOWA – James Benson II won the 400m race in convincing fashion for the Southeastern Louisiana Track and Field team Friday night at the Drake Relays at Drake Stadium.

Benson II, a junior, won the race by .26 seconds over South Dakota's Demar Francis taking home the title in a time of 46.31.

The Charleston, Illinois native currently sits 12^th in the NCAA East Qualifying standings in the 400m after running a 46.05 at the Texas Relays March 25. Benson also ranks second in the Southland behind teammate Jonathon Sawyer who ran a school record 45.35 at the Texas Relays.

Saturday, the SLU 4x400 team of Benson, Sawyer, Jonathon Storr and D.J. Ruffin will be in action while Slavko Stevic will see the field in the high jump.
