SLU Opens Road Swing at No. 14 UL Lafayette

Lady Lions, Ragin' Cajuns meet on Wednesday at 6 p.m. on ESPN+

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana softball team will open a four-game road swing on Wednesday, traveling to face No. 14 UL Lafayette in a 6 p.m. nonconference contest.

The game between the Lady Lions (23-14) and the host Ragin' Cajuns (32-6) at Lamson Park will be televised on ESPN+.

Southeastern had its seven-game winning streak snapped by McNeese with a 3-1 loss to the Cowgirls. A doubleheader sweep on Friday helped SLU win its fifth straight league series to open the season.

The Lady Lions head west with a .290 team batting average. Audrey Greely leads the team and ranks among the Southland leaders in batting average (.418, 5th in the Southland), on-base percentage (.505, 2nd) and slugging percentage (.604, 10th).

The top hitters for average for SLU also includes Lindsey Rizzo (.379) and Aeriyl Mass (.369). The SLU trio of Greely, Rizzo and Mass all rank among the league's top 10 in runs and hits. Mass leads the league with 48 hits and is 10th in the Southland with a team-high 23 RBI.

Greely and Mass share the team lead with three home runs apiece. Cameron Goodman leads the Lady Lions with three triples, while Greely's six doubles pace the squad.

The top two teams on the NCAA Division I stolen base leaderboard will be meeting in Lafayette on Wednesday, as both the Lady Lions and Ragin' Cajuns have 111 stolen bases to share the national lead. Mass leads SLU with 23 stolen bases, followed by Rizzo (22), Goodman (21), Greely (12) and Kelci Bodin (12).

Southeastern enters Wednesday's game with a 3.84 earned run average. Heather Zumo (13-2, 1.98 ERA) ranks near the top of the Southland in virtually every pitching category to pace the Lady Lions. MC Comeaux (8-5, 5.04 ERA) and Sophie Hannabas (2-3, 5.74 ERA) have been the team's other primary starters, while Ellie DuBois (0-2, 2.92 ERA, 6 saves) leads the Southland in saves with her single-season school record total.

The SLU pitching staff will face a high-powered UL Lafayette lineup that is hitting .323 as a team with 43 home runs. Ciara Bryan leads the Ragin' Cajuns with a .447 batting average, while Julie Rawls and Jade Gortarez share team-high honors with seven home runs apiece.

In the circle, UL Lafayette is boasting a 2.32 team earned run average. The Ragin' Cajuns feature a potent combo of arms in Summer Ellyson (13-4, 2.44 ERA, 2 saves) and Kandra Lamb (14-2, 1.93 ERA).

Wednesday will be the second meeting of 2021 between the Ragin' Cajuns and the Lady Lions. UL Lafayette defeated SLU, 9-1, in the UAB Green and Gold Classic back on Feb. 21.
