HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana women's tennis team closed out the 2020-21 regular season with a 6-1 loss to Southland Conference foe Sam Houston on Sunday afternoon at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
The Lions finished the 2020-21 season with a 7-15 overall record and a 3-8 mark in league play. Sam Houston improved to 15-3 overall and 10-1 in Southland Conference action.
Southeastern took the early lead by winning the doubles point. On No. 2,
Flory Bierma and
Annemart Kleijn (8-9, 4-6 Southland) took down the Bearkat duo of Andrijana Brkic and Constandena Nicolacu, 6-3. SLU's
Putri Insani and
Ximena Yanez (8-5, 3-1 Southland) gave the Lions a 1-0 lead with a 6-2 win over Sahaja Yamalapalli and Sahithi Vutukuru.
Despite some close first sets, The Bearkats clinched the match with straight-set singles victories on courts 1,3,4,5 and 6. The lone three-set match came on the No. 2 court, where Karla Montalva held off SLU's
Polina Sleptsova for a 7-5, 3-6, 7-5 victory.
