HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana's
Sophie Daigle,
Grant O'Callaghan,
Adam Cortez and
Anthony Cordero were named to the 2020 Academic All-Southland Conference Cross Country team, the league office announced Thursday.

In order to receive All-Academic recognition, each student-athlete must achieve a 3.0 or better cumulative G.P.A. and be in their second year with the school.

Daigle, Cortez and O'Callaghan each earned first team honors.
Â
Daigle, a senior, finished fifth in the Southland Conference Women's 6k Championship race Feb. 21 in Hammond. The Donaldsonville, Louisiana native added to her resume which included a first team All-Southland cross country selection.
Â
O'Callaghan, out of Flowery Branch, Georgia, placed fifth in the men's 8k conference championship. The senior Kinesiology major, prior to redshirting the 2019 season, also finished eighth in the conference championships in 2018 earning a second team All-Southland selection.

Cortez, from El Paso, Texas, took home eighth place this year in the conference championship race. The senior communications major secured one of the remaining spots on the first team.

Cordero wasn't far behind the group. Also a senior from El Paso, Cordero finished 11
th in the championship race which helped the Engineering Technology major earn second team All-Academic.

With their performances, the trio of Cortez, O'Callaghan and Daigle helped the Lions claim the 2020 Southland Conference Men's Cross Country Championship.

Irene Rono of Abilene Christian was named Women's Cross Country Student-Athlete of the Year while Texsas A&M-Corpus Christi's Dennis Kipngeno was named Men's Student-Athlete of the Year.
