HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana women's tennis team dropped a tough 4-3 decision to Omaha in nonconference women's tennis action Thursday evening at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
 
The Lions (3-10) won the doubles point, but the visiting Mavs (8-8) rallied with four singles victories – including three in straight sets.
 
SLU got off to a good start with wins on the bottom two doubles courts. On No. 2, Flory Bierma and Annemart Kleijn (5-7) earned a 7-5 win over Omaha's Brooke Covington and Colby Kelley. The Lion pair of Katya Cornejo and Ximena Yanez earned their first win of the spring, defeating Natalie Lorentz and Lillian Tiemeyer, 6-1, on No. 3.
 
Straight-set singles wins at opposite ends of the singles draw helped Southeastern close in on the victory. On No. 1, Lion sophomore Putri Insani (8-3) extended her singles winning streak to five matches with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Ines Absisan. Ariadna Perez (3-6) was too much for Omaha's Justine Linscott in a 6-1, 6-1 win on No. 6.
 
Omaha countered with a straight-set win on No. 5. The other three matches would be decided in three sets. On No. 2, Lorentz fought off several match points to rally past SLU's Polina Sleptsova for a 1-6, 7-5, 6-1 victory. Kelley held off Bierma, 6-0, 2-6, 6-2, on No. 3, while Tiemeyer was too much for Teodora Mitrovic in a 6-1, 2-6, 6-3 win on No. 4.
