STILLWATER, Okla. – Southeastern Louisiana's
Shea Foster finished in 45
th place out of 249 runners in the 10k NCAA Division I Cross Country National Championship Race Monday afternoon at the Oklahoma State Cross Country Course.
Â
Foster, a junior, put together a valiant effort. The Cypress, Texas native fell behind to 60
th place after the first 1k. However, the Southland Cross Country Champion rallied back as he moved all the way up to 25
th place after 2k. Foster maintained his position as he stayed between 20
th and 25
th place through the hilly stretch of the Oklahoma State CC Course until the 8k mark.
Â
The Southland Conference Indoor Men's Most Valuable Performer just missed an All-American finish as the top 40 in the race receive the honors.
Â
While the results didn't turn out Foster's way Monday, the resume is one to remember for the newly crowned NCAA Indoor All-American (sixth place in 6k). Along with his conference cross country championship, Foster also won the 3k, 5k and one-mile races at the Southland Indoor Championships.
Â
The list continues as Foster was honored with the USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week March 2 after his performance at the conference cross country and indoor meets.
Â
"Well, an incredible 23-day stretch for Shea is finally over," said SLU cross country head coach
Corey Mistretta. "He didn't finish as strong as he wanted today, but he represented Southeastern like a champion. He will definitely enjoy some much needed rest and recovery for the next couple before he begins competing outdoors. What he accomplished will probably never happen again since cross country and indoor were run concurrently."
