HAMMOND, La. – Shea Foster competes in his second NCAA national meet in as many weeks, while the football, baseball, softball, indoor volleyball, tennis, track and beach volleyball teams will all be in action during this week in Southeastern Athletics.
 
Foster, the individual champion at last month's Southland Conference Cross Country Championships, will participate in the NCAA Cross Country Championships Monday at 12:20 p.m. in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Last Friday, Foster earned All-America honors with a sixth-place showing in the 5,000 meters at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
 
The No. 18 SLU football team (2-1, 2-1 Southland) travels to face No. 25 UIW this week. The battle of nationally-ranked teams kicks off at 2 p.m. in San Antonio, Texas. Both teams have won their last two contests entering Saturday's matchup.
 
Fresh off a four-game sweep of preseason Southland favorite Sam Houston State, the Lion baseball team (11-4, 4-0 Southland) carries an eight-game winning streak into a week that features five road contests. On Tuesday, Southeastern travels to Baton Rouge to face LSU at 6:30 p.m.
 
SLU then opens its Southland road slate with a four-game league series at UIW. The series opens with a 6:30 p.m. contest on Friday, continues with a 2 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday and concludes with a 1 p.m. series finale on Sunday.
 
The Southeastern softball team (12-10, 3-0 Southland) opened Southland Conference play with a sweep of its own, taking three from Lamar for its first series sweep to open league action since 2001. SLU will put its four-game winning streak on the line on Tuesday, hosting LSU at 6 p.m. in North Oak Park.
 
The Lady Lions then open their Southland road schedule with a three-game series at Houston Baptist. The series opens with a 5 p.m. doubleheader on Friday and concludes with a 12 p.m. contest on Saturday.
 
Southeastern isn't just on a roll on the gridiron and in the diamond sports, as the SLU indoor volleyball team (8-3, 6-2 Southland) carries a five-match winning streak into its final two home matches of spring 2021. The Lady Lions, who ended defending Southland champion Stephen F. Austin's 42-match conference winning streak last Saturday, will host Houston Baptist at 7 p.m. on Thursday. On Saturday, SLU welcomes UIW for an 11 a.m. matinee in the University Center.
 
The SLU tennis team (3-9, 1-5 Southland) will take a break from conference competition this week. On Thursday, Southeastern hosts Omaha at 5 p.m. at the Southeastern Tennis Complex. The Lions take on Houston on Saturday at 3 p.m. in New Orleans' City Park.
 
The Southeastern Louisiana men's and women's track and field teams will compete at its home facility this week. The Lions and Lady Lions will host the Southeastern Triangular at the Southeastern Track Complex.
 
The Lady Lion beach volleyball team (0-8) will compete in the Warrior Beach Bash in Conway, Arkansas and will be searching for its first win in program history. The day's action opens with a 10 a.m. match versus Park (Mo.) University, followed by a 2 p.m. dual versus host Hendrix College. SLU closes the day with a 3:45 p.m. contest versus Park.
 
On The Air
Monday's NCAA Cross Country Championships, Saturday's football game, Tuesday's softball game and both indoor volleyball matches this week will be televised on ESPN+.
 
Tuesday's baseball game will be seen on SEC Network+, while Cox Sports Television will also televise Tuesday's softball game.
 
Saturday's football game will be heard on the Southeastern Sports Radio Network (KSLU-FM (90.9), Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM and The Boss 103.7 FM/1400 AM). Tuesday, Friday and Sunday's baseball games can be heard live in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9).
 
Inside Southeastern Football with Frank Scelfo, sponsored by Louisiana's First Choice Auto Auction, airs Monday night at 7 p.m. on the outside patio of Pour House Pizza and Beer Garden (505 West Thomas Street). Hosted by Allen Waddell, the show will air on the Southeastern Sports Radio Network (KSLU-FM (90.9), Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM and The Boss 103.7 FM/1400 AM) every Monday during the season.
 
The latest edition of Inside Southeastern Baseball with Matt Riser, presented by Blackened Brew is set for Monday. Airing every Monday during the baseball season at 12 p.m. on KSLU 90.9 FM, the one-hour show airs live from Blackened Brew in downtown Hammond.
