MOBILE, Ala. – The Southeastern Louisiana track and field team took home titles in seven different events and posted several national marks Friday at the South Alabama Invitational at Jaguar Track.
In the men's 200m, SLU's
Johnathon Sawyer won the event in a time of 21.26 which is the seventh best time in the nation.
James Benson II was right behind Sawyer at 21.27 to earn a top 10 national mark.
Donovan Storr finished fourth in 21.75.
Newcomer
Agerian Jackson took home the 400m title. The sophomore transfer from Butler Community College crossed the finish line in 48.23 giving him the 10
th best mark in the country.
Thomas Daigle (1:54.19) and
Parker McBride (1:54.22) finished first and second in the men's 800m. The duo also found themselves among the nation's best in the event as they both rank in the top 10 as of Friday night.
Senior
Grant O'Callaghan, after redshirting the indoor season, made his return to the track in style winning the 1500m in 3:49.71. The time ranks the Flowery Branch, Georgia native sixth in the country in the event.
Zach Barthel also had a great showing in the 1500m finishing runner up the O'Callaghan in 3:57.98 earning him a spot in the top 20 of the national rankings.
Anthony Cordero took home the championship in the steeple 3000m in 9:29.03. The senior continues his red hot spring after finishing 11
th in the Southland Conference Cross Country Championships 8k race.
The men's 4x400 relay won by nearly five seconds Friday. The team of Sawyer, Benson II, Jackson and Storr finished in 3:12.40. As of Friday night, the group owns the nation's top outdoor time in 2021.
In the field,
Slavko Stevic (high jump),
D.J. Ruffin (long jump),
Thomas Nedow (discus) and Frank Disanza (javelin) all finished runner up in their respective events to add the Lions dominant day.
On the women's side,
Ashley Davis (shot put),
Indya Jackson (400m) and
Kristian Jackson (discus) each won titles on Friday.
Davis, a senior, threw 54 feet, 7.25 inches (16.64m) which ranks her second in the nation.
Indya Jackson's win in the 400 with a sub-57 second time (56.93) earned her a spot in the country's top 25 rankings.
Kristian Jackson (169-6, 51.66m) posted a mark that is good enough for fourth nationally.
Southeastern's will to ride their strong start to the season into the Southeastern Triangular schedule for March 19 at the Southeastern Track Complex in Hammond.
