Foster Finishes Sixth in 5K Indoor National Championships, Earns All-American Selection

Foster Sets Personal Best, Earns All-American Status

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Shea Foster earned All-American honors after finishing in sixth place in a time of 13:32.38 in the 5k race Friday at the NCAA Division I Indoor National Championships 5K race in the Randal Tyson Center.

The time was a personal best for Foster who capped off his month-long dominance of accolades. He qualified for the race after winning the 5k at the Southland Indoor Championships in a conference indoor championship record of 13:40.36.

"I left everything I possibly had on the track," said Foster. "It's a tough pill to swallow walking away with sixth but knowing I couldn't have run a better race and knowing I gave everything I had makes it a little easier to deal with. It was just a fun experience running against the best in the country."

The Cypress, Texas native won the Southland Conference Cross Country Championship Race in Hammond.

The junior also racked up three indoor conference championships in the 3k, one-mile and 5k earning him Southland Conference Men's Most Valuable Performer. He also earned three first team All-Southland Indoor selections as a result garnering him the USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week March 2nd.

"The Lion Nation should be very proud of the way Shea has represented them over the course of the past few weeks both on and off the track," said SLU track and field head coach Corey Mistretta. "Shea is extremely excited, but we don't have a lot of time to celebrate this achievement. We leave early tomorrow morning for Stillwater (Oklahoma) where he will try to earn another All-American status in the cross country national meet."

With Friday's performance, Foster became just the 13th male athlete in SLU Track and Field History to earn NCAA Division I All-American honors.

Foster, the newly crowned All-American, will be back on the national stage Monday when he competes in the NCAA Division I Cross Country 10k Championship race in Stillwater, Oklahoma at 2 p.m.
