HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana cross country teams will host the Southland Conference Championships and the baseball team will open its 2021 season at home to highlight this week in Southeastern Athletics.
The Lions and Lady Lions will host the league cross country meet on Sunday on the SLU campus. The 6K women's race will start at 10 a.m. with the men's 8K race following at 11 a.m.
The SLU baseball team will open its campaign on Friday, hosting Mississippi Valley State at 6 p.m. on Friday. Southeastern takes on South Alabama on Saturday at 6 p.m. before closing the weekend with a 1 p.m. contest versus Mississippi Valley State on Sunday.
The Southeastern men's basketball team (6-13, 4-6 Southland) opens its week on the road, facing Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. On Saturday, SLU returns home to host Abilene Christian at 4 p.m. in the University Center.
The Lady Lion women's basketball team (7-6, 6-4 Southland) will be back on the road for the first time since Jan. 16, traveling to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Wednesday at 5 p.m. SLU closes its 2020-21 home schedule on Saturday, hosting Abilene Christian at 1 p.m. in the University Center.
The SLU volleyball team (2-2, 0-1 Southland) opens its home schedule this week with a pair of league matches. On Tuesday, Southeastern hosts Nicholls at 6:30 p.m. The Lady Lions welcome Sam Houston to the University Center for a 6:30 p.m. match on Thursday.
The Southeastern soccer team (1-0, 1-0 Southland), fresh off a dramatic 3-2 overtime victory at Lamar, will also open its home schedule this week. On Friday, SLU welcomes Sam Houston for a 7 p.m. match. Stephen F. Austin visits for a 1 p.m. match on Sunday at Strawberry Stadium.
The Lady Lion softball team (3-2) will hit the road for the first time this spring this week. On Wednesday, SLU travels to face Mississippi State at 4 p.m., before moving on to Birmingham, Alabama to compete in the UAB Green and Gold Classic. SLU opens the tournament on Friday, facing UL Lafayette at noon and UAB at 2:30 p.m. On Saturday, Southeastern takes on Jacksonville State at 4 p.m. and UAB at 6:30 p.m. Sunday will see the Lady Lions take on the Ragin' Cajuns at 11 a.m.
The SLU tennis team (1-2) has three matches on the schedule this week. On Monday, the Lions are scheduled to travel to UL Lafayette for a noon match, but that match will almost assuredly be rescheduled due to inclement weather. Southeastern is set to travel to Tulane for a noon match on Saturday and host LSU Alexandria on Sunday at noon.
This week, the Southeastern men's and women's track and field teams will compete in its final tune-up before next weekend's Southland Conference Indoor Championships. The Lions and Lady Lions will be in Baton Rouge on Friday to compete in the LSU Twilight.

Friday and Sunday's baseball games, Saturday's basketball doubleheader and both of this week's volleyball matches will be televised on ESPN+. A live video stream for Saturday's baseball game and Sunday's soccer match will be available at

Matt Riser, presented by Blackened Brew. Airing every Monday during the baseball season at 12 p.m. on KSLU 90.9 FM, the one-hour show airs live from Blackened Brew in downtown Hammond.
Inside Southeastern Basketball with
David Kiefer, sponsored by North Oaks Health System and Rainbow Daiquiris, airs Monday night at 7 p.m. Hosted by Allen Waddell, the show will air on the Southeastern Sports Radio Network (KSLU-FM (90.9), Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM and The Boss 103.7 FM/1400 AM) every Monday through March 1.

This Week's Promotions
Morgan Carrier will be Saturday's women's basketball Spotlight Player of the Game. The first 150 fans will receive a trading card featuring the New Iberia, Louisiana native, courtesy of PRIDE.
Prior to Saturday's women's basketball game, senior Breonca Ducksworth will be recognized prior to her final home game as a Lady Lion.
