HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University men's and women's basketball teams open their respective 2021-22 seasons, the football team hosts the Hall of Fame game and the indoor volleyball team celebrates Senior Day during this week in Southeastern Athletics.
 
The Lion men's basketball team will open the season with three games this week. On Tuesday, Southeastern travels to Tulane for a 7 p.m. contest. SLU opens its home schedule on Friday, hosting Southeastern Baptist College at 7 p.m. in the University Center.
 
The Lions will welcome Paul Quinn College for a 1 p.m. matinee on Sunday. Sunday's game is the Maxwell Lieberman Classic, named for the late son of Southeastern assistant coach Mark Lieberman. Fans will have the opportunity to support the March of Dimes in honor of Maxwell Lieberman in conjunction with Sunday's contest.
 
The SLU women's basketball team will start the season with two games on the road this week. On Tuesday, Southeastern opens the 2021-22 campaign with a noon contest at Tulane. The Lady Lions then travel to Texas Tech for a 7 p.m. contest on Thursday in Lubbock, Texas.
 
Fans traveling to Tulane for the basketball doubleheader on Tuesday must either have proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours of Tuesday's doubleheader. Original cards or the LA Wallet app can be presented as proof of vaccination. Pictures of vaccination cards will need to include both sides of the card.
 
The No. 6 Southeastern football team (7-2, 5-1 Southland) returns home to host Northwestern State on Saturday at 6 p.m. in Strawberry Stadium. Saturday's game will also be the Hall of Fame game. Both the 2020 class of Matt Carvell (golf), Maiya Cooper (soccer), Brock Hebert (baseball) and Adonson Shallow (track and field), as well as the 2021 class of Jameson Fisher (baseball), Harry Nunez (football) and Renee Villarreal (tennis) will be inducted in a private ceremony prior to the game and recognized at halftime.
 
Also in conjunction with Saturday's game, the Southeastern Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will hold the 14^th Annual Game Day Gumbo Cook-Off. There is no cost to enter and all proceeds will benefit SAAC.
 
Prizes for both fan's choice (most money in the voting jar) and judges' choice will be awarded with the winners announced during the game. Voting jars will be provided at 2:30 p.m. with pickup at 5:30 p.m.

The Lady Lion volleyball team (8-17, 6-7 Southland) will close out its regular season schedule on Thursday, hosting Northwestern State at 6:30 p.m. in the University Center. Prior to Thursday's match, SLU will honor senior Karlee Wilkerson in a Senior Day ceremony.
 
Also on Thursday, the Southeastern beach volleyball team will host a 4 p.m. doubleheader versus New Orleans at the Southeastern Beach Volleyball Complex.

Saturday's football game will be televised on ESPN3. The game can also be heard in the Hammond area on Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM and The Boss 103.7 FM/1400 AM and online at www.kajun107.net. ESPN+ will air all of this week's basketball and indoor volleyball action.
