TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Southeastern Louisiana University's
Bradley Makuvire will compete against the nation's elite in the 2021 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championship men's 10k race Saturday morning at 10:10 a.m. CT at Apalachee Park in Tallahassee.
Makuvire, a sophomore, is one of four individual qualifiers from the South Central regional. The 2021 Southland Conference champion, Makuvire punched his ticket to the race after finishing 11
th in the South Central Regionals 10k race Nov. 12
th.
"I've really just been trying to recover from the previous race," said Makuvire. "And make sure I keep the same mindset for this race as any other one which is to stay focused and compete. But It's a tough race because my body is used to 8k races so this is going to be another challenge."
The Zvishavane, Zimbabwe native won four out of five races he competed in this season, including wins at LSU, Nicholls, Mississippi College and the conference championships. He's also won the Southland Cross Country Male Athlete of the Year, the Southland Conference Cross Country Male Athlete of the Week twice and received national honors as the USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week Oct. 11
th.
Saturday, Makuvire joins a field that features 193 runners, including 31 teams and 38 individual qualifiers.
