HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University football and volleyball teams compete for their respective Southland Conference championships, Bradley Makuvire represents SLU in the NCAA Cross Country Championships and the Southeastern men's and women's basketball teams will continue nonconference play during this week in Southeastern Athletics.
 
The No. 13 Lion football team (8-2, 6-1 Southland) can clinch at least a share of the third Southland championship in program history with a win in Thursday's 6 p.m. River Bell Classic versus Nicholls in Strawberry Stadium. The Southeastern senior class will be recognized approximately 30 minutes before the game in a special Senior Day ceremony.
 
The Southeastern volleyball team (9-17) will travel to Houston, Texas to compete in the Southland Conference Tournament. As the No. 4 seed, SLU receives a bye into the quarterfinals, where it will face the winner of Thursday's first round match between UIW and New Orleans on Friday at 2:30 p.m. With a win, the Lady Lions will advance to face top seed Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in Saturday's 2:30 p.m. semifinals. Sunday's championship match is set for 2 p.m. with the winner receiving the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.
 
For the second straight season, SLU will have a representative participating in the NCAA Cross Country championship meet. Makuvire's 11th-place showing at last week's NCAA South Central Regional earned the Lion sophomore a spot in the national meet. The 10K race is set for 10:10 a.m. (Central) on Saturday in Tallahassee, Florida.
 
The Lion men's basketball team (2-1) returns to the road this week. Southeastern will travel to face SMU on Thursday at 7 p.m.
 
The Southeastern women's basketball team (0-2) opens its home schedule on Monday, hosting LSU-Shreveport at 7 p.m. Taylor Bell and Jade Brumfield will be Monday's Spotlight Players of the Game and the first 150 fans will receive trading cards featuring the Lady Lion freshmen, courtesy of PRIDE. On Friday, SLU heads to Alcorn State for a 6 p.m. contest in Lorman, Mississippi.

Saturday's football game, all of the volleyball team's Southland Tournament matches, Thursday's men's basketball game and Monday's women's basketball contest will be televised on ESPN+. Thursday's SLU-Nicholls football contest can also be heard in the Hammond area on Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM and The Boss 103.7 FM/1400 AM and online at www.kajun107.net.

The 2021 season of Inside Southeastern Football with Frank Scelfo will continue on Monday at 7 p.m. inside the Pour House Pizza and Beer Garden (505 W. Thomas Street) in downtown Hammond. The hour show, hosted by fourth-year Lion head coach Scelfo and Allen Waddell, can be heard on Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM and The Boss 103.7 FM/1400 AM, as well as online at www.Kajun107.net.
