BATON ROUGE, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana Track had a terrific showing Saturday at the LSU Purple Tiger Invitational, despite having just 11 student-athletes in action.
On the women's side, SLU's
Kristian Jackson and
Indya Jackson finished runner-up in the shot put and 600m. Both set personal bests in the events.
Madelyn McCabe, making her collegiate debut for the Lady Lions, ran a person best in the 60m hurdles. The Cashion, Oklahoma native also qualified for the finals later on in the day.
For the men,
Slavko Stevic and Tommy Nedow won the high jump and the shot put. Stevic, the reigning Southland Conference Indoor champion in the high jump, claimed the title in the same event Saturday while Nedow won the shot put.
"Very Pleased," said SLU track head coach
Corey Mistretta. "It's been 320 days since we last competed. It was nice to be back at the track watching the joy on the faces of athletes and coaches. We only brought eleven athletes today and each one of them did exactly what we always ask for, they competed like champions and represented the Lion Nation with pride. Of the eleven athletes competing today, seven of them had a podium finish. Now that we have dusted the rust off we can get back to work continuing to push toward the conference championships."
The Lions and Lady Lions will be back in action Friday, Jan. 29 at the LSU Louisiana Invitational in Baton Rouge.
