Southeastern Extends Win Streak to Four With 4-0 Win at Southern

Lions improve to 4-1 with Sunday's road win

BATON ROUGE, La. – Putri Insani and Kim Bohlen each won in both singles and doubles play to help Southeastern Louisiana to a 4-0 nonconference road victory over Southern in women's tennis action Sunday afternoon at the SU Tennis Courts.

Southeastern (4-1) extended its win streak to four matches with Sunday's win. The Lions won a pair of doubles matches and three of six singles matches to drop the host Lady Jaguars to 0-5 this spring.

"Southern is strong and athletic, so this is a good win for us," Southeastern head coach Jason Hayes said. "We came out focused and overall I was pleased with our effort in a tough environment against a team that will contend for its conference championship."

The Lions have two matches left on the schedule – versus UL Lafayette on Thursday and against Wyoming on Sunday – before opening Southland Conference play at Abilene Christian on Feb. 28. This week's action will prepare SLU for the league schedule, according to Hayes.

"We're going to treat these next two matches like conference matches," Hayes commented. "We're going to prepare the same way we would for a Southland match, so this will be an important week for us."

In Sunday's win, Southeastern opened the match by taking the doubles point. On No. 1, Insani and Ximena Yanez (4-1) won their fourth straight match, defeating the Southern pair of Tanaka Chakanyuka and Nandi Munyulwa, 6-2. The SLU duo of Flory Bierma and Kim Bohlen (4-0) remained unbeaten with a 6-0 victory over Stephanie Mbaya and Anya King on the No. 3 court.

Teodora Mitrovic (3-0) gave SLU a 2-0 lead with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over King on the No. 5 court. Insani (4-0) also remained unbeaten in singles play this spring with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Chakanyuka on the top court.

Bohlen (3-0) closed out Southeastern's win on court 6, defeating Shaeda Nickle, 6-4, 6-2. Bierma, Yanez and Polina Sleptsova were all up a set on their respective singles courts when the match was decided. Through five matches this spring, SLU is 17-4 in singles play and 10-4 in doubles action.
