Southeastern (4-2) opened the season by winning Lion Classic I at home, while Louisiana Tech (5-0) went unbeaten at the season-opening Sand Dollar Classic in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
SLU heads to Ruston with a .361 team batting average.
Ella Manzer (.692, 1 HR, 5 RBI, 2 2B),
Rebecca Skains (.571, 4 2B, 2 3B, 6 RBI) and
Jaquelyn Ramon (.471) are the top hitters for average. Manzer, Skains, Ramon and
Bobbi Smith share the team lead with five runs each, while
Briahna Bennett's six RBI matches Skains' team-high total.
Southeastern, which has led Division I in stolen bases in two of the three seasons, has 23 steals through the season's first week. Ramon, who is the school's career leader with 128 steals, leads the team with seven stolen bases, followed by Smith with five.
Seven different Lady Lions have combined for a 2.97 team earned run average.
Sophie Hannabas (1-1, 2.44 ERA),
Tanner Wright (2-0, 1.45 ERA) and
Alley McDonald (1-0, 1.45 ERA) have seen the most action for SLU in the circle.
Southeastern will be facing a Louisiana Tech squad that enters Wednesday's contest with a .308 team batting average. Mary Terral leads the team with a .438 batting average, three home runs and seven RBI.
Louisiana Tech's undefeated start is thanks in large part to a pitching staff that has a 1.70 team earned run average. The duo of Krystal De La Cruz (2-0, 1.27 ERA) and Preslee Gallaway (2-0, 1.95 ERA, 2 saves) have carried the majority of the pitching load for LTU.
Following Wednesday's contest, Southeastern will return home to host Lion Classic II on Friday through Sunday at North Oak Park. The Lady Lions will open the tournament on Friday with games versus Prairie View (3 p.m.) and Missouri State (5 p.m.). On Saturday, SLU opens the day with a 1:30 p.m. contest versus Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, before closing the day with a matchup versus UTSA at 3:30 p.m. The Lady Lions close the tournament with an 11 a.m. game versus SIU-Edwardsville on Sunday.
