HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana closed out its 2019 fall schedule with a pair of victories Friday evening at North Oak Park.
The Lady Lions finished the fall with a 7-1 record. Southeastern head coach
Rick Fremin was pleased with his team's progress during the fall.
"I like our team and the balance we showed at the plate," Fremin commented. "We have a little more power in our lineup and we're pleased with the speed and athleticism we showed this fall. Our offensive production was good against a pretty challenging fall schedule and we're expecting to be very competitive in the Southland Conference.
"We went into the fall wanting to see who could start, middle relieve and close," Fremin added. "We have a lot of options and our staff has been solid throughout the fall."
In the opener, the quartet of
Tanner Wright,
Anna Westberry,
Karlee Kraft and
Sophie Hannabas held LSU Alexandria to one hit in an 8-0 win.
Madisen Blackford (3-for-4) led a 13-hit Lady Lion attack, while
Lindsey Rizzo and
Audrey Greely each had two hits apiece.
Madison Watson homered for the second straight game, while Blackford, Greely and
Ella Manzer each tripled. Blackford and
Ali McCoy led SLU with two RBI each, while Rizzo and
Pryscilla Prince each shared team-high honors with two runs each.
Jones County Junior College took an early 2-0 lead, but Southeastern responded with a 15-hit performance on the way to a 9-4 win in a 10-inning exhibition to close the day's action. Blackford led the Lady Lions at the plate with a 4-for-6 showing, while McCoy hit a two-run home run on a 3-for-5 night.
Rizzo and
Kelci Bodin added two hits apiece in the nightcap. McCoy and
Briahna Bennett each had two RBI, while Blackford and McCoy each had two runs scored. Comeaux,
Shelby Sitzman,
Heather Zumo and
Alley McDonald held the Wildcats to six hits over the 10-inning contest.
