Ramon Races Into Record Books in 11-3 SLU Rout of ULM

10-run second inning allows Lady Lions to pull away from Warhawks

HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana sophomore shortstop Jaquelyn Ramon became the school's career stolen bases leader and the Lady Lions used a 10-run second inning on the way to an 11-3 run-rule victory over ULM in non-conference softball action Monday evening at North Oak Park.

The run-rule victory was the second straight for Southeastern (21-22). Louisiana-Monroe fell to 28-17 overall with the loss.

Ramon, a native of Channelview, Texas stole two bases, giving her 71 in her year-plus in Hammond and surpassing former teammate Katie Lacour's previous career record of 70 steals. Ramon and junior infielder Grace DeLee both had two hits apiece for Southeastern.

DeLee and junior catcher Whitney Sullivan both finished with two RBI in the win. Ramon, junior outfielder Kalyn Watts, junior outfielder Kinsey Nichols and junior infielder Mahalia Gibson each one RBI apiece.

Freshman Alley McDonald (2-2) tossed 3.2 innings, allowing two earned runs to earn the win. Junior Rachel Hayes tossed 1.1 innings of shutout relief to close out the victory.

ULM jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Sydney McKay led off the frame with an infield single and scored on an RBI double by Cheyanne Lyon that fell just out of the reach of diving SLU junior centerfielder Maddie Edmonston.

SLU tied the score against Warhawk starting pitcher Paige Porter (6-3) in the bottom of the first inning. Ramon singled and promptly stole second. On the next pitch, she stole third and ULM catcher's Samantha Agamite's throw skipped into left field, allowing Ramon to score the tying run.

The Lady Lions exploded in the bottom of the second inning to put the game away. A total of 16 batters went to the plate in to the plate, as ULM committed four errors and SLU collected seven hits in the marathon inning.

The Warhawks used three pitchers in the inning. Edmonston scored two runs in the frame and the Lady Lions nearly batted around twice. The first nine batters of the innings reached for Southeastern and SLU ended the inning with an 11-1 lead.

ULM cut into the lead in the top of the fourth inning, as RBI singles by Ana Hogan and Lyon pulled the Warhawks within 11-3. Hayes came in to strike out Melanie Coyne, then pitch a scoreless fifth inning to end the game after five innings.
