LAKE CHARLES – Singles by junior Katie Duhe, sophomore Meghan Gomez and junior Tamra Ladnier were all the offense the Southeastern Louisiana softball team could manage in an 8-0 Southland Conference loss to McNeese State Sunday at Cowgirl Diamond.

For the second time in as many days, the Lady Lions (11-34, 3-22 Southland) were held in check by MSU ace Meagan Bond (20-9), who struck out five in Sunday's complete game effort. McNeese State (32-24, 15-12 Southland) took advantage of five Southeastern errors to take the rubber game in the series.

The Lady Lions mounted their first threat in the top of the second inning. Sophomore Katelyn Thomason walked to lead off the inning, which Duhe immediately followed with a single to put runners at first and second with nobody out. The single by Duhe increased the Lutcher native's current hit streak to 11 games.

Bond battled out of the jam, striking out Ladnier and sophomore Lauren Coniglio for the first two outs. Senior Amber Freeman then was forced to pop up to second base to keep Southeastern scoreless.

Thomason had kept McNeese State off the board in the first two innings and gave way to senior Catherine Gunther (0-7) in the third inning. With one out, Liz Morvant gave McNeese State a 1-0 lead with a solo home run over the left centerfield fence.

An RBI double by Dani Price, coupled with a Southeastern error and an RBI single by Katie Shumaker plated two more runs in the frame and put the Cowgirls up, 3-0. Molly Guidry doubled home a run in the Cowgirl fourth to push the lead to 4-0.

McNeese State put the game away in the fifth inning. Errors by freshman Kati Morse, Coniglio and Freeman led to three runs and a 7-0 MSU lead. In the sixth, another Lady Lion error led to another Cowgirl run and allowed MSU to enforce the mercy rule.

Southeastern will close out its 2010 season next weekend, hosting league foe Texas A&M-Corpus Christi for a three-game series at North Oak Park. The series opens with a 3 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday and concludes with a 12 p.m. contest on Sunday. Seniors Freeman, Gunther, Chelsea Takacs and Jenna Yoder will be honored prior to Sunday's first pitch.
