SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Southeastern Louisiana softball team's early season struggles in Southland Conference play continue as it dropped a 10-1, five-inning decision to defending SLC regular season champion Texas State Saturday afternoon at Bobcat Field.
The Lady Lions (8-13, 0-7 SLC) remain winless in league play after Saturday's loss. Texas State improved to 16-9 overall and 8-2 in league action.

In the bottom of the second, Texas State took control. Leah Boatright led off the inning with her fourth home run of the season. Ryan Kos followed with a double and later scored on an RBI singles by Jenna Emery. The Bobcats' final run scored on a McCubbins throwing error and Texas State took a 3-0 lead.
Southeastern cut into that lead in the top of the third inning. Ladnier led off the frame with a single, advanced to third on a Gomez double and scored on a two-out RBI single to pull the Lady Lions within two runs.
Texas State ended any hope of a Southeastern comeback in the bottom of the third inning. McKenzie Baack, Boatright and Kos opened the inning with consecutive singles and Baack would score on a sacrifice fly by Hall. An RBI single by Kristina Tello and a two-run double by Alex Newton pushed the Texas State lead to 7-1 after three innings of play.
The first two Texas State runs of the fourth inning came as a result of a Ladnier error. Emery singled home the inning's final run to put the Bobcats ahead, 10-1.
Texas State reliever Elizabeth Dennis sat Southeastern down in order in the fifth to clinch the mercy rule victory.
The series concludes on Sunday with a 10 a.m. doubleheader.
