MEMPHIS – The Southeastern Louisiana men's tennis team earned its first victory of the 2009 season on Saturday, blanking Murray State, 7-0, at the Wellworx Sporting Club.

The Lions (1-1) swept all six singles matches and won two of three doubles matches. Murray State fell to 0-3 overall.

“The key for us today was much better execution,” Southeastern head coach Jason Hayes said. “Our primary problem in yesterday's loss was poor execution and we showed a lot of improvement in that area today. We have a lot of respect for the Murray State program, so today was a good victory for us.”

The Lions opened the match by taking the doubles points with wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. At No. 1, sophomores Stepan Siska and Jan Bezdecka defeated Jose Berardo and Ben Clos, 8-5. The Lions were also 8-5 winners at No. 2, as sophomore Julien Roussel teamed with senior Guillaume Capovin to outlast Racer duo Renaldo Domorey and Luka Milicevic.

Roussel, the lone Lion returning letter winner active in the singles draw, improved to 2-0 in dual match singles play with a 4-6, 7-6, 10-2 victory over Domorey at No. 2. Five Lion newcomers earned their first singles wins in a Southeastern uniform on Saturday.

At No. 1, Siska came from behind for a 6-7, 6-4, 10-6 victory over Clos. The remainder of Southeastern's wins were in straight sets. At No. 3, junior Benjamin Enke moved past Berardo, 6-2, 7-5.

The Lions were dominant at the bottom of the singles draw. Bezdecka cruised past Mason Johnson, 6-0, 6-3 at No. 4. At No. 5, sophomore Damien Cordoba also was a 6-0, 6-3 winner over Jadir Semesin. Adam Perry was no match for Capovin at No. 6, falling 6-0, 6-1.

Southeastern will return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 11, facing UNO at 2 p.m. in New Orleans.
