RUSTON - Senior Melissa Jones' 10 kills paced a balanced attack as Southeastern Louisiana opened its 2007 season with a 30-12, 30-17, 30-26 win over in-state rival Centenary College in the Louisiana Tech Invitational Friday at Lambright Intramural Center.

Southeastern (1-1) earned a split on its opening day after falling to host Louisiana Tech in the nightcap, 30-21, 30-23, 30-23.

Jones tallied 10 kills and added five blocks for the Lady Lions against Centenary (0-5) while freshman Kalynn Evans added six kills and hit .273 in her collegiate debut. Lauren Mayer and Emily Jordan each added five kills each for Southeastern, which hit a blistering .310 for the match and held Centenary to -.092 from the floor.

Maddie Beebe added nine assists and six service aces for the Lady Lions while Teri Byrum posted a match-high 11 digs.

Stephanie Hobaugh, the only player to post a positive hitting percentage from the floor, led Centenary with 10 kills while Yvonne Ramirez added eight digs.

In the nightcap, Southeastern was held to .010 from the floor and trouble defending Louisiana Tech's Shannon Phillips, who finished with 18 kills and a .381 hitting percentage. Jillann Walker recorded 34 assists for Tech (3-3) while Brittney Nakamura added 13 digs.

Evans led Southeastern with seven kills with Jordan following with six. Byrum paced the Lady Lions on defense with 11 digs and Beebe added 11 assists to lead Southeastern.

Southeastern will return to action against Southland Conference rival Central Arkansas (5-0), which beat Southern Miss and Jackson State in earlier action, at 10 a.m.
