HAMMOND - Southeastern Louisiana University has named Miklannet Tennal assistant basketball coach, Lady Lion head coach Lori Davis Jones announced on Wednesday.
Tennal has spent the past two seasons as a graduate assistant at Angelo State University, helping the team to consecutive NCAA Division II South Central Region Tournament appearances. Prior to her time at ASU, Tennal was a student assistant coach at Emporia State for the 2004-05 season in which ESU finished 27-6 overall and finished second at the NCAA South Central Regional Tournament.
\"Miklannet has played and coached at a championship level in the Division I, junior college and Division II ranks and will be a great addition to our staff,\" Jones stated. \"Her addition will help bring fresh ideas to our staff and our program. We’re thrilled to have Miklannet with us and we believe she will greatly enhance our program.\"
Tennal entered the coaching ranks after a very successful playing career at both the high school and collegiate level. A Centralia, Kan. native, Tennal was an All-State performer at Centralia High School and led her team to the 2000 Class 1A state title. At the end of her high school career, she was the No. 5 scorer in Kansas high school history with 2,347 career points.
Tennal began her collegiate career at Cloud County Community College, where she was a two-time All-American. As a freshman, she led CCCC to the national title, earning Most Valuable Player honors at the national tournament. She finished her two years at CCCC as the all-time leading scorer in school and conference history with 1,617 career points and a 22.8 point per game scoring average.
Following her time at Cloud County, Tennal played at Texas Tech for the 2002-03 season. She appeared in 30 games for a Red Raider team that advanced to the Elite 8. Tennal spent her final collegiate season at Emporia State, earning honorable mention All-Conference honors and leading her team to the Division II Sweet 16.
Tennal earned her bachelor\'s degree in health promotion from Emporia State in 2005 and her master\'s degree in kinesiology from Angelo State in 2007.
Tennal will make her debut on the Southeastern sidelines on Nov. 9, when the Lady Lions open the 2007-08 season with a 7 p.m. game at Mississippi State in Starkville, Miss.
