RAY EARNS SECOND STRAIGHT SLC PITCHER OF THE WEEK HONOR

FRISCO, Texas -After breaking several school records in the final week of the season, Southeastern junior pitcher Rachel Ray was named the Aeropostale Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week for the second straight week in an announcement from the league office on Monday.

Ray was a perfect 3-0 with a 1.75 earned run average in the final week of the season. On Wednesday, she held Southern Miss scoreless for the final six innings and allowed Southeastern to come back for a 5-4 win, winning her single-season school record 19th game of the season in the process.

On Saturday, Ray took a perfect game into the fifth and hurled a one-hitter in an 8-0 win over Central Arkansas. The shutout was the eighth of the season for the Payson, Ariz. native, setting another school standard. On Sunday, she hurled five scoreless innings and took a no-hitter into the fifth, leaving after allowing only two hits in a 7-2 win.

Ray’s final week capped the best season ever for a Southeastern pitcher. After missing all of 2006 with an injury, Ray came back stronger than ever. For the season, she posted a 21-10 record with a 2.02 earned run average, striking out 154 batters in 215 innings pitched.

The weekly honor for Ray, who was previously named SLC Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 13 and April 30, is the fifth of the season for Southeastern\'s ace. In addition to the three SLC nods, Ray has twice been named LSWA Pitcher of the Week. Ray, Texas State\'s Ragan Blake (four) and Amanda Glenn of Northwestern State (two) are the only pitchers to win SLC Pitcher of the Week multiple times this season.
