HAMMOND - The Southeastern Louisiana University golf team returns to action on Monday when it hosts the fourth annual Carter Plantation Intercollegiate Golf Tournament at Carter Plantation in nearby Springfield.
The 15-team, two-day tournament starts with first- and second-round action beginning at 8:30 a.m. with the final round scheduled for 8 a.m. on Tuesday. Participating in the field along with host and two-time tournament champion Southeastern are SEC schools Ole Miss and Mississippi State, Southern Miss, Arkansas State, Chattanooga, Jacksonville State, 2005 tournament champion Louisiana-Monroe, Louisiana Tech, Middle Tennessee, Nicholls State, South Alabama, South Florida and Texas-San Antonio.
Southeastern captured the tournament title in 2006 defeating Mississippi State and JSU by eight strokes. Matthew Carvel was the top finisher for the Lions shooting a 5-over park 221 on the par-72, 7,409-yard course. JSU's Julian Colmenares claimed individual honors after firing an even-par 216.
Highlighting the Lions is Aaron O'Callaghan, who finished in a tie for fourth and helped Southeastern claim the Louisiana Classics by six strokes over SLC rival Lamar.
