FOOTBALL: SOUTHEASTERN HEAD COACH LUCAS ADDS KEY STAFF

Southeastern Louisiana head football coach Mike Lucas has announced the addition of two new staff members and one internal promotion for the upcoming 2007 campaign.

The Lions added Thomas Condell, a 10+ year coaching veteran of the Southland Conference and Canadian Football League, as offensive coordinator and Allen Rudolph, who most recently coached at Samford University and has significant experience in the state and conference, as offensive line coach.

Condell replaces Scott Highsmith who resigned in December while Rudolph will take the place of former assistant Tony Hatmaker who has assumed the role of compliance director in the athletics department.

Lucas also announced that Matt Webb, who has served as the Lions recruiting coordinator and linebackers coach, has been elevated to defensive coordinator.

"I'm extremely excited about the newcomers to our staff and having Coach Webb serve as defensive coordinator," said Lucas. "Coach Condell is an outstanding young offensive coach who will bring a ton of experience and enthusiasm to our team. He has a wealth of experience in the state, conference and nationally and is a welcome addition.

"Coach Rudolph is also very familiar with our conference and this region and will do an outstanding job with our young offensive line."

Lucas noted that Webb is very deserving of his promotion to defensive coordinator.

"Coach Webb is an outstanding young defensive coach who has done a wonderful job in his time at Southeastern," explained Lucas. "He knows our personnel and what we're trying to do on the defensive side of the ball. I believe he'll do a great job."

Condell comes to Southeastern from the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the CFL where he served as offensive coordinator for the last year. He also served two other stints in the CFL: as pass game coordinator of the Ottawa Renegades (2004-05) and as the special teams coordinator for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (1997-98).

No stranger to the Southland Conference, Condell served as passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach at Stephen F. Austin from 1999-2001. During his time at SFA, Condell helped the Lumberjacks to the 1999 conference title.

Following his stint at SFA, Condell became the special teams coordinator (2001) and was offensive coordinator (2002-2003) at the University of Louisiana - Monroe. During his time with the Warhawks, Condell’s offense showed a 46 percent increase in scoring per game.

Rudolph most recently served as the offensive coordinator and offensive line coach at Samford University during the 2005-2006 seasons. He was the offensive line coach at East Mississippi Community College during 2004 and served as offensive line coach at ULM from 2002-2003.

Rudolph was a three-year starter at center for SLC-member Nicholls State from 1989-1993 and was a 1992 and 1993 team captain. He served as an assistant coach for the Colonels from 1995-1999.
