LIONS GET FIVE FIRST-PLACE FINISHES AT LOUISIANA CLASSICS

LAFAYETTE - The Southeastern Louisiana track and field continued its impressive start, earning five first-place finishes on the men's side as the Lions competed at the 21st annual Louisiana Classics held Saturday at the Cajun Track and Field Complex on the University of Louisiana-Lafayette campus.

Four of the Lions first-place marks came in field events with Teremine White and James Randall highlighting action. White finished first in the discus with a mark of 186-2 with Ruben Stephens (168-10) finishing third and Dwight Womack (159-1) fifth. The trio also earned to-10 finishes in the shot out with White finishing second (54-9.50), Stephens third (51-8.50) and Womack seventh (49-6.25).

Randall claimed first place in the triple jump with a mark of 48-0.75 with Avery Sorapuru claiming the long jump title (22-4.25) and Cal Hamilton winning the javelin competition (221-1).

Denham Springs' Joey Valure picked up the final first-place finish for Southeastern, winning the 1,500-meter run in 3:55.8. Alex Aschenbrenner was second overall in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:57.5.

Sheena Horton and Melissa Jones turned in the best finishes on the women's side for Southeastern with Horton finishing third in the 100-meter dash (11.80) and Jones third in the high jump (5-4). Kayla Schneeweiss and Jalynn McDonald each finished fourth in their respective events with Schneeweiss (19:41.7) competing in the 5,000-meter run and McDonald (12:57.1) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
