LADY LIONS CLOSE OUT SEASON AGAINST COWGIRLS, CARDINALS

HAMMOND - The Southeastern Louisiana University volleyball team closes out its 2006 season when it travels to face Southland Conference rivals McNeese State and Lamar in a pair of matches beginning Friday.

Southeastern (4-25, 0-14 SLC) faces McNeese State (12-13, 10-4) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday before battling Lamar (11-19, 6-8) at 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Brittany Pomes leads Southeastern with 2.61 kills per game followed by Melissa Jones at 2.43. On defense, Teri Byrum paces the Lady Lions with 2.65 digs per game with Margaret Pittman (2.44) and Erin Miles (2.43) next.

Maddie Beebe leads Southeastern with 7.44 assists per game with Lydia Adeosun leading the Lady Lions with 1.01 blocks per game.

McNeese enters the weekend having already clinched the East Division and is in third place behind Stephen F. Austin and Texas-Arlington in the overall Southland Conference standings. McNeese has won five of its last six matches and 11 of its last 15.

Southeastern La. enters the weekend on a 15 match losing streak and Nicholls State has lost three of its last five matches. Nicholls will face Lamar Friday night before its match here Saturday. McNeese defeated both teams on the road in straight sets last month.

Tiffany Baker leads the Cowgirls with 247 kills and is second on the team with 259 digs and 66 blocks. She ranks second in the league with a .366 hitting percent in league games behind UTSA\'s Connie Picard\'s .390 percent.

Marquita Williams leads the team with a .295 hitting percent and 3.64 ppg. Libero Jessica Strama leads the team with 505 digs for a 6.01 per game average and ranks third in league games only with a 6.43 average.

Middle blocker Lindsey Petzold leads with 94 blocks and 36 service aces. Petzold is averaging 1.19 blocks per game and is second in league games only with 0.40 per game. Setter Sarah Cartie leads with 875 assist and is averaging a team high 10.54 per game.

Lamar has been led offensively by senior Buchi Okoh who has knocked down 386 kills (3.98 per game) and a .330 hitting percentage. Junior Molli Abel has added 254 kills (3.06 per game), while junior Courtney Mitchell and sophomore Lauren Rush have knocked down 180 and 162 kills respectively. The setting duties have been split between freshman Adrianne Meengs and sophomore Ashley Todd, with the two passing out 711 and 507 assists respectively.

Defensively, the Lady Cards have been led by Andrea Hamilton\'s team-high 371 digs, while Alex Brink and Meengs have picked up 304 and 185 digs respectively. At the net, the Lady Cards have been led by Okoh\'s 124 blocks (1.28 per game), while Mitchell has added 67.
