SOUTHEASTERN'S BALDWIN ANNOUNCES SIGNING OF MATTHEW CARVELL

Southeastern Louisiana men's golf coach Tim Baldwin announced today the signing of Matthew Carvell to a national letter of intent.

Carvell, who is coached by Gavin Levenson, a former European Tour Player and often plays golf with Simon Hobday, a former US Senior PGA champion, will join recent signees Graham Benson and James Taverner of England, Aaron O'Callaghan of Ireland and Kevin Sohn of New Zealand at Southeastern in August 2005.

"I am pleased to announce the signing of Matthew Carvell of Johannesburg, South Africa," remarked Baldwin. "Matthew is an exceptional player. He is a member of the Central Gauteng u-23 Interprovincial team and ranked among the top 30 amateurs in South Africa.

"Although he only started playing competitively at the age of 17, he has compiled an impressive list of accomplishments including a handicap ranging from +2 to +3."

In his first senior tournament, Carvell shot 285 (71-70-70-74) and qualified for the top 32 matchplay in the Central Gauteng Amateur Open. He placed 2nd in Northern Province Open with 10 under par 278 at Polokwane Golf Club, home of PGA tour player, Retief Goosen.(70-69-69-70) and won eleven of eleven matches in the Central Gauteng Scratch league

In 2005, Carvell placed 29th in Etonic Gauteng North Open with 286 (72-71-73-70). He finished tied for 12th at the Vodacom Northwest Open with 286 (73-73-71-69) and placed in a tie for 29th at CGGU Northern Open with 297(74-72-76-74) qualifying for the final 32 matchplay making it through to the final 16.
