MOBILE, Ala. - Southeastern's Jaroslav Trojan defeated Jacksonville State's Jonathan Hoenicke, 6-3, 5-7, 6-1 at No. 3 singles to clinch a 4-3 Lions' victory Saturday afternoon.

The Lions (2-3) won four of six singles matches, after dropping the doubles point. Southeastern dominated the bottom half of the draw, as freshman Julien Lousao picked up his second win of the spring, defeating JSU's Peter Wietrak, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 3. At No. 5, Illie Babinciuc improved to 2-3 in 2005 with a 6-2, 6-1 rout of Jacksonville State's Christian Ritschka. Paul Birkett picked up a win for Southeastern at No. 6, cruising past Jacksonville State's Tarek Merchant, 7-5, 6-1.

Southeastern was forced to win four singles matches to earn the victory after dropping the doubles point. The Lions' lone tandem victory came at No. 3, where Birkett and Trojan combined for a 8-6 win over the JSU duo of Hoenicke and Merchant.

Earlier in the weekend, Southeastern was blanked 7-0 at South Alabama.

Southeastern will return to action on Thursday, when they host Nicholls State at the Southeastern Tennis Complex. The match, scheduled to start at 2 p.m., will be the Southland Conference opener for the Lions. Later in the day, the Lions will host Xavier (N.O.) at the Oak Knoll Country Club.
