BEAUMONT, Texas - Southeastern's Haris Huremovic improved to 3-0 in Southland Conference play, defeating Texas-Pan American's Jeremy Salvo, 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 to lead the Lions to a 5-2 SLC win over UTPA Friday afternoon at the Cardinal Courts.

After losing the doubles point, Southeastern (9-7, 2-1 SLC) rebounded to win five of six singles matches and take the match. With the win, the Lions, winners of four straight matches, secured at least a No. 3 seed in the SLC Tournament. Texas-Pan American fell to 6-6 and 0-3 in the SLC.

"We got off to a bad start in doubles," Southeastern head coach Jason Hayes said. "We knew this match was going to be very competitive, as UTPA is a very good team. We were just able to wear them down in singles and we came away with a great win."

Huremovic was one of three Lions to win three-set matches, as teammates Olivier Nussbaum and Matt Tate each came from a set down to earn wins. Nussbaum earned a hard-fought 4-6, 7-6 (7-1), 7-6 (7-4) win over Gary Bianco at No. 2, while at No. 3, Tate defeated Nik Porter, 3-6, 6-1, 6-3.

In other singles action, Milos Vasovic and Paul Birkett earned straight-set wins for Southeastern. Vasovic won his fifth straight match, improving to 12-4 with a 6-1, 6-2 thumping of Oliver Stiel at No. 4. At No. 6, Birkett extended his singles winning streak to four, with an easy 6-0, 6-1 win over Armando Martinez.

Southeastern will return to action on Saturday at 12 p.m, facing SLC rival Lamar. With a win over the Cardinals, Southeastern would set up a showdown for a share of the SLC regular-season title with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Monday at 12 p.m.
