SOUTHEASTERN JUMPS TO SECOND AS BAYLOR INVITE CONCLUDES

Southeastern Louisiana shot its lowest round of the tournament and jumped two spots to finish in second place as the sixth annual Baylor Invitational at Bear Ridge Golf Club concluded on Tuesday.

LSU shot a final-round 294 to finish at 868 and take the team title finishing just two shots clear of the Lions who came in at 870 after firing the low round of the day (287).

The Tigers began the day one stroke behind host Baylor at 574. The Bears shot a 302 in the third round and fell to fourth (875).

Mervyn Owens (75-72-70) and Steven Tiley (71-73-73) led the way for the Lions finishing tied for ninth at one-over par 217 while Brett Bergeron (74-72-73) finished two back in a tie for 18th at 219. Michael Mulryan (73-73-74) finished at four-over par, 220, and in a tie for 20th while Hugo Leon (75-76-71) rounded out the squad finishing at six-over par, 222 and in a tie for 28th but did managed to shoot the low round of the day for the Lions.

Lamar's Chris Stroud took individual medalist honors by shooting a three-round 14-under-par 202 (65-68-69) and besting the field by eight strokes. Stroud, a senior from Groves, Texas, was the individual medalist at the Baylor Invitational as a sophomore in 2001 at Ridgewood Country Club in Waco.

The Lions finished ahead of three other Southland Conference schools including three-time defending champion Lamar which shot a 293 in the third round and finished four strokes off the pace in third at 872.

Baylor placed fourth at 875, followed by Texas Tech and SLC member UT-San Antonio at 876 in the top five. Sam Houston State rounded out the Southland members finishing 14th at 913.
