SOUTHEASTERN LIONS PREP FOR FULL PADS ON SUNDAY

HAMMOND - With four days of Fall practice in the rear view mirror and the first day in full pads in sight, Southeastern Louisiana head coach Hal Mumme is pleased with the way the team has progressed.

"We've been able to improve a little each day and that's really what you want to see," replied Mumme. "The squad has looked a little crisper on the offensive end with each practice and I've been happy with the defense. The speed on the defense is a little better than in the Spring and we've certainly improved in the defensive secondary with the additions this Fall
."
The Lions worked under the lights of Strawberry Stadium once again Saturday but will hit the field in the heat of the day Sunday for a 3 p.m. full pads practice.

"It'll be the first time we really get after it in the heat of the day," replied Mumme. "We've been working them at night to get acclimated slowly and they know to drink a lot of liquids tonight and in the morning in preparation for the heat."

St. Amant's Seth Babin continued to shine at quarterback Saturday with Brian Sheppard also taking the team on several solid drives. Defensive lineman Brett Beard continued to make his presence known in drills while transplanted defensive lineman Kenard White looked good on the offensive line.

"I think that move (White from DL to OL) is going to pay off," replied Mumme. "We believe that's a spot he'll really be able to help us this season."

Anthony Larry, the offensive line transfer fro m UAB, worked out with the offensive line Saturday but will be unable to go into full pads on Sunday. Larry became eligible to participate Thursday and must first go through the four-day acclimation period before being allowed to practice in full gear.
