BATON ROUGE -- Southeastern Louisiana University placed six athletes on the 2003 Louisiana Sports Writers Association All-Louisiana College Track and Field teams announced this weekend.

Chris Carter, a sophomore from Walker, led the way on the men's side. Carter earned a spot on the team for his 223-5 javelin throw, the second-best performance in the state this season, at the LSU Alumni Gold on April 13. Carter was the first member of the Southeastern track team to participate in the NCAA Championships since Christine Amertil in 2000.

Courage Idusuyi, a junior from Baton Rouge, was placed on the team after his 25-2 performance in the long jump at the LSU Relays on March 29. The Broadmoor High product's leap was the third-best in the state.
Alvin Brown earned a spot on the team in the decathalon. The Alcorn State transefer and Christian Life Academy product scored 6,463 points at the SLC Championships on May 17, the state's third-best performance.

Britney Henry, a freshman from Spokane, Washington led the way on the women's side. Henry's hammer throw of 185-4 at the NCAA Mideast Regional on May 31 was the second-best in the state.

Janice Ezegbunam, a junior from Nassau, Bahamas, and Celeste Cantrelle, a freshman from Cut Off, both made the team after their performances at the Southland Conference Championships on may 17. Ezegbunam cleared 5-7 in the high jump, while Cantrelle cleared 10-8 1/4 in the pole vault. Both performances were the third-best in the state in their respective events.

The team is the final one selected by the Association for the 2002-03 college calendar year. The top three times submitted in each event by the state Sports Information Directors are listed below as members of the team, while the Universities nominated athletes for the special awards which were voted on by college SIDs in the state.

Bennie Brazell of LSU was named the men's Track Athlete of the Year, while national champion Brian Johnson of Southern tied with Lawrence Willis of Louisiana Lafayette for Field Athlete of the Year. Kellie Willie of LSU was named the Freshman of the Year, while Derek Richardson of Louisiana Lafayette was named the Newcomer of the Year for first-year in Louisiana non-freshmen.

On the women's side, Muna Lee of LSU was the Track Athlete of the Year, while teammate Nicole Toney was the Field Athlete of the Year. Priscilla Chapu of UNO earned Freshman of the Year honors, while Nadia Davy of the Lady Tigers was the Newcomer of the Year.

Named the men's coach of the year was Johnny Thomas, Sr., of Southern University and named the women's coach of the year was LSU's Pat Henry.
