BEARS TOO MUCH FOR LADY LIONS

WACO, Texas -- Despite 12 points from LaSha Stover, Southeastern could not overcome poor shooting and turnovers, as the Lady Lions fell toBaylor, 79-46 Monday night in the Ferrell Center.

Baylor (7-1),which forced 29 Southeastern turnovers and held the Lady Lions to 25.9 percent (14-for-54) from the field for the game, took control of the game from the tip-off, scoring the game's first 15 points.
Southeastern missed its first 10 shots and could never recover.

"We played pretty well defensively," Southeastern head coach Lori Davis Jones said. "We need to do a better job on the offensive glass and in our overall offensive execution."

Baylor's frontcourt of Sophia Young, Emily Niemann and Steffanie Blackmon each had eight points in the first half. Stover scored eight for Southeastern (2-2) in the opening period, as the Lady Lions went into the
intermission trailing 39-18.

The Lady Bears started the second half much the same way, opening the half with a 18-1 run in the second half. Dacia McGowan and Misty Ard each hit a three-pointer to help Southeastern end the run, but Baylor came back and extended the lead to as much as 37.

To their credit, Southeastern did not give up, as Taryn Achord andMcGowan each hit a pair of baksets down the stretch to cut the lead under 30.

Young led all scorers with 18 points, while Niemann pitched in with 16 and Blackmon added 12. Dionne Brown pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds for the Lady Bears. Taryn and Shanna Achord had six points apiece for the Lady Lions, while Nakeya Downing pulled down a team-high six rebounds.

Southeastern will return home on Thursday, hosting Troy State at 7 p.m. inthe University Center.
